Trail Limits And The New Ranger XD 1500

Minnesota has 2000 lbs, 64” and 1000 cc For class 2 trails. Curious how this is going to play out. Would be disappointed after shelling out major capital and not receiving class 2 trail permit.
Read a post last week that mn will look at a weight increase in the future

Wondering were u do ride
I ride off road on private ground so there are no rules for that. I probably ride 90-95% on gravel roads and 2 lane highways. In Iowa they are legal on the roads with no weight or width limits. Just this year Iowa also made it legal to drive them in State parks on any of the roads that a normal vehicle can travel one. No off-roading allowed in the parks. Our license is no more than a DNR sticker that cost about $25 year.

Just private for me till they increase weight limit. Spoke with my state rep 3 weeks ago and was told a increase was going to be presented soon. With the large atv utv in the state shr thought it would eventually pass. They are asking for 3500 lbs 65 wide
Good to know, thank you. I will contact Assemblyman Ron Swearingen and urge him to raise it.
Thank you. The more the better

I am admittedly no expert, but doesn't it make sense that the weight limit on trails is designed to keep the obvious heavy, 4 wheel drive road-going vehicles off certain trails? If the vehicle is obviously a SXS (and the XD1500, even though large, is definitely/obviously that), then I wonder if a ranger would stop you and issue a citation if you're over the weight limit. I would think there would be a whole lot of leniency if the thing is obviously not a jeep or a blazer. Not quite the same situation, but I have the stock, non-DOT tires on my buggy and I drive for stretches on the State highway and around-town roads, which is technically not legal with those tires. Yet, I've passed numerous sheriffs and State troopers, and not one gives me a second look, other than perhaps that of admiration.

The new Ranger XD 1500 is big and I got me wondering if it's technically too big for some trails? I think I remember hearing about some Wisconsin trail systems that limit vehicles to less than 3,000 lbs? I just looked up a fully loaded Ranger XD 1500 NorthStar Ultimate 6-seater and the dry weight is 3,323 lbs! I had to look at that number a couple of times just to make sure it was correct haha! I'm going to guess that most people would just look at it as a UTV and not realize how heavy it actually is. I know a lot of trails are limited by width so any trail with a width limit of 64 inches or higher should be fine.
And that is more than my 1980 Jeep CJ7!

Reply from my Assemblyman Rob Swearingen:

"Jim,
Thanks for reaching out regarding UTV weight limits on our trails.
Thanks for your kind words and I’m happy to hear your family is enjoying the trails!
I am aware of some talk about raising the weight limit.
At this time it’s unclear how much traction this legislation would have.
I will keep an eye out for it.
Have a great week.
Rob"
