So your user name? Let’s hear why.

I have been "oneal " for forty years, before I was part of any forum. It was a brand of dirt bike apparel in which I was very heavy into and my first name is Neal,.
Many many years ago my wife would shout,,,,,,,, ooooooo, sorry, had a few buds. I was dreaming again

I’ve either been Mr.C or Carp for years. My dad was always Carp. Which is short for our last name (Carpeneti). When my wife and I got married, my wife became Mrs.C with our friends. That’s even her license plate now.

We live in Northern Wisconsin. It's very forested / heavily wooded. We are surrounded by County, State and National forests with hundreds of miles of trails to ride. All County and surrounding County roads are open to ATV/UTV traffic so we can get to the trails from our driveway. It's a tourism area so ATV/UTV recreational riding up here contributes a great deal to our local economy. We are blessed to have community support for the sport. I'm not very creative when it comes to interesting names. So all of our rangers have just been called "Woods Ranger". The XD Ultimate is our forth Ranger and it's red because I wanted it to be FAST. (Thanks for the heads up Big Red).

My real name is Roderick Cox but every just calls me Rod. My handle is "Big Red" for many reasons. - 1. My XD 1500 is BIG and just happens to be RED. 2. Red is my favorite color, my motorcycles were almost always red, my last XP1000 was red, my truck is red, and my Grand Cherokee is red..........if I own it and it moves its likely red. (except my mower which is JD Green) 3. I'm a huge Milwaukee tool fan because they are great tools that just happen to be red. 4. I used to ride Victory Motorcycles, and I had a habit of always spending money on Big Bore kits and diamond cutting the heads. For this reason, my personalized plates always read "Big Vic" which was a bored-out Victory. My handle on the bike forums was always "Big Vic" as well. 5. Last but certainly not least I'm a big guy at 6'8" tall and about 275 lbs. so I'm BIG. If you see me, I'll likely be in something RED. If you have been around here for a while you'll know why it's red..........It's because everyone knows that "Red is the fastest color!"

Dang, you are a biggin. Good thing Polaris offered a red (fast) 1500 in 24, kept you out of the paint shop.

A good friend and fellow Ranger rider lived on a lake in Tomahawk. We met up many times to ride the ruff places scattered around the US, but we haven't done any of that sort of riding in 13 years and no longer have any desire to climb mountains and bottomless mud holes. We DO however plan to travel to places that are tamer and enjoy our 1500. My 36yo special needs son loves to ride and is large part of our motivation to "do this again" but putting a helmet on him is not possible so that eliminates some states.

Question you may be able to help with:
As my wife and I research places to take our 1500 crew to ride Wisconsin has some attributes that attract us but I recently read on a forum (which can be questionable) that to purchase the plate to ride on your state trails the weight of your machine must be under 3000lbs. Do you have any insight if this is factual,,,,,,,,,or enforced ?
Thanks

Rupp Collector, I'm just that, vintage muscle sled collector. Not just Rupp's either. Anything Rupp or Polaris from the 70's as long as it's free air or liquid cooled.

Can you start a thread with dome
Pics? That’s super cool. We had a 71 440 rupp. It was red with bogies that’s all I remember about it.

Helmets are not required on trails in Wisconsin over the age of 18, so your Son would not have to wear one. Unfortunately the 3000# weight limit is correct. We attended the WATVA (Wisconsin ATV Association) convention last year and they took a vote on whether the State should increase the limit from 3000 pounds to 4000 pounds. I voted yes, but the overwhelming majority of attendees voted no. They think the extra weight "might" do more damage to the trails. I think they are afraid of what they don't know. That's why we had to purchase a 2 door instead of the crew.

We are only 15 miles North of Tomahawk and would have enjoyed showing you some of the trails up here. Maybe if/when they change the weight limits that will be possible. If they do I'll let you know. We ride the Ranger into Tomahawk quite often. It's a small town but because of the popularity of ORVs there are Polaris, Can Am and Yamaha dealers there, and it's not uncommon to see more ATVs/UTVs than cars on the streets at times. Pretty cool.

it is a small world, his name is Randy Warren I believe they are native to Wisconsin but went south 6 years ago. Really good people.
Sorry to hear the weight limit is real but do understand. 4000 is close to a 2 door Jeep.

I appreciate you taking the time to answer, maybe as you mention it will change as we would likely jump on your offer. We would feel best going to a new place with some guidance from a local.

Don't believe we know the Warren's. We try to find a guide if possible whenever riding new territory also. At least on the first day. Will be happy to do so if the opportunity ever arises. Take care.

Hey Oneal, I live in Tripoli WI and bought my 1500 from Erv's in Tomahawk. They are aware of the 3,000 limitation on the 5 passenger XD and will tell you that Wisconsin will not sell you a required registration for the Crew XD. The registration is required for road riding here. I believe the same is true in Minnesota, but they have a 2,500 max weight, so my 3 person machine is not Minnesota friendly at this time. Although these limits will probably change, I do believe these registration limitations still exist.

The road/trail trips I have been on here are fantastic. My buddy Eddie has introduced me to rides to Hayward, Hurley and Eagle River and at 67, I enjoy a more "mature" ride that has been up to 145 miles per day. It's great to have a trail guide with familiarity of the state. (Thanks Eddie!)

Stay riding my friend....

This is one of the attributes of a good forum. Most folks are good natured and will share valuable information.
I gave thought to a single cab when I shopped for a 1500 but the center seat is just too short even though JR is skinny and my wife and I are not large we were also elbow to elbow. We are comfortable with all 3 in the front of our Pioneer but with half doors you always have your arm resting on top of the door.
If I had been aware of some of the weight rules I may have looked closer at the Ridge but it is probably no wider.
I appreciate you taking the time to comment Eddie, maybe some day it will change and we can meet up.

Many years ago my boys and I were field trialing Beagles. I had a young dog that I had bred and raised. Her name was Bluegoose and was born in 1998. I became Bluegoose98 on forums after she Won National Champion in the Bench Show and National Champion Field dog in the same year at 12 months old. I have a great, great granddaughter of hers now that is a 3 year old dog. Bluegoose name came for her daddy. He was Blue Duck. They are Blue Tick Beagles.

I believe I stopped by Erv's in Tomahawk many moons ago, did he used to sell Victory motorcycles? When we rolled into town they were getting ready for a motorcycle event over the weekend, we didn't stay for it and motored on. Seemed like a nice town but we were on our way back home and were running late due to weather.
