84" Glacier Pro Plow Hydraulic Swivel Short-term Fix

I recently bought an 84" Glacier Pro Plow with the hydraulic swivel system for my new Ranger HD 1500 Northstar Premium. In playing with it, I discovered (and have since confirmed with the dealer) that Polaris shipped a number of these plow systems with the wrong hydraulic actuator that swivels the plow. The one I have only reaches out 150mm versus 250mm. This means that the plow nicely swivels left (when the actuator is retracted) but cannot swivel right at all as its reach is too short. Polaris is backlogged in replacing the hydraulic actuator with the proper reach one so I fabricated a bracket as a short-term fix should we get snow before the new actuator is replaced. If anyone wants my pencil sketch of the bracket I made, just lmk and I'll post it.

I fabricated two 1/4" thick steel brackets as shown in the pics to ride on the top and bottom of the factory brackets attached to the Glacier frame. I used a 1/2" bolt and nut where the 5/8" locking pin would be, and drilled a 1/4" bolt and nut on the side (only real modification) to make sure the temporary bracket would be rigid in place. The distance from the original pin hole to the new pin hole measures 85mm which allows the plow to swivel completely left and right. When the new hydraulic assembly comes in, it'll be easy to remove my brackets and replace the hydraulic assembly. Hope this idea helps if you have a short actuator!

The length of my actuator is just right, thanks for asking:LOL: Just joking of course. Very nicely written and the pics are great. Looks to be a great mod to help get by until Polaris gets their shit figured out.

Haven’t used mine yet. So I didn’t know it wasn’t good. Thanks for the info I’ll be sure to check it out once the snow comes.

My hydraulic plow angle works fine. I zoomed in on the label of yours and saw that the part number is different than mine. Below is a photo of the label of mine. I recently used my 84” plow to clear 2 1/2 feet of snow from our 10,000 sq. ft. concrete driveway here in the Colorado mountains. The hydraulic plow angle works great.

Nice job and write up

I took note of that part number, when they become available again, I’ll make sure the part number matches what you have.

Ok. I can confirm the plow lift won’t lift with snow on the blade going to chat with the dealer tomorrow.

Tilt left and right is perfect.

Is that with the hydraulic lift? Or the winch? Testing mine with no snow after install, the winch does about the same as my XP did.

This might sound like a stupid question, but I don't know and I'm curious. Does the hydraulic lift work with the Plow Control on the Ride Command system?

No doesn’t at all. It works through a 4 position rocker that replaces the shift handle.

This is a great write up and explanation. I just finished picking up all my plow parts last night, got it all assembled and I have the same issue. The plow will turn all the way to the left, but will only push the plow to the center while going right. It will not turn to the right at all, the piston on the actuator is totally extended. I called my dealer and he was not a ton of help, but said he would check into it tomorrow.

This is a super frustrating issue. These parts just came in from Polaris this week. So even though they know about the issue, they are seemingly still sending out the wrong parts a month or more later.

Did this ever get resolved by the dealer for you TKelly?

Here is a pic of my actuator.

Thanks

So a little update on mine, not to steal this thread but to add to the original problem.

I talked with my dealer who in turn talked to Polaris. They admitted that a number of the Angle Pistons were mispackaged. However Polaris suggested that they were mispackaged with the Lift piston. So the lift piston was actually the angle piston and the angle piston was actually the lift piston.

Now I don’t believe this is the case, but my dealer suggested swapping the two pistons, obviously this only works if you opted for the hydro lift piston instead of using your winch. So I went ahead and did this, and indeed this worked. However strangely the controls for both angles are backwards. I think along with doing this you need to rewire (repin) your controller. Also I can not really test it because all my snow melted. My concern is that the lift piston may not have the strength or throw needed.

Thanks
Mike
