Has anyone here installed this muffler or the whole system to include the header they offer? Thoughts, actual performance increase. RPM claims at least 3 hp with the muffler alone.

These were previously brought up on this forum if you want to search the name. There was a few interested but never heard a report of one in use. Quite is a big part of the reason I purchased the 1500 so it's not an item for me.

There are plenty of people here that want even less noise, not more noise. There has not been much talk here about aftermarket exhaust but I'm sure if someone pulls the trigger on one, we'll be happy to hear how it turns out.

Sounds good, thanks. I'll see what I can come up with. A bit skeptical on a 3 hp increase with just the muffler alone. They appear to be louder that's for sure.

I could see them doing a 3hp increase. Better exhaust flow is always helpful. I just don’t think it’s enough to feel it. Just turning on the A/C on a Northstar is around a 4-6hp drop. If you’re looking for a performance boost I’d recommend the Gilomen ECU/TCM tune. It alone is a significant performance improvement, and you could pair it with the RPM exhaust to maximize the increase.

We just got the set (muffler and header) shipped in. I should be able to get it installed within a week or so, and can report back. We do already have the Gilomen ECU/TCM tunes on our 1500, so it might be different for non-tuned machines.
I’ll also report on whatever noise level increases there are.

Thanks! That’d be great. I keep going back and forth on this. Not really wanting to increase the noise level to much. The quietness of the 1500 is partially what drew me to it in the first place.

Agreed on the quietness! We’ll do a before and after sound tests with a decibel meter for accuracy.
It’s hard to tell from the videos, but it didn’t sound much louder. Just more tone.

Excellent, looking forward to a real-world install and thoughts. On the fence on purchasing this as well. Thank you for the update!

Any update on this? Eagerly awaiting :)

Ok… finally got to changing the muffler and header. It’s a fairly easy job, only takes about an hour to replace both. Could’ve been done in less but I wasn’t hurrying.

For the “before” decibel readings we had 92db at the rear by the exhaust and 81db in the cab between the driver and passenger.

After the RPM Sport Muffler and Header, we have a 10db gain to 102db at the rear (revving the engine). And a 7db gain in the cab between the driver and passenger.

All the noise tests were done at full rpm for maximum noise readings. The average db after installing the RPM Sport muffler and header were a couple db lower at normal trail speeds.
It’s definitely a much sportier sound with a deeper tone. I’m not sure when we’ll be taking it for a full ride, but we’ll have to see if it’s bothersome on a long ride.

Man, that is super pretty and really not a huge increase in noise. Would have been cool to do the same test the fella from AA done. 0 to 60 before the pipe and then after. But you gut feel is also worth a lot.. Be interesting to hear your feelings.

Thanks for the update. 7 and 10 db gain isn’t so bad. Also nice to see that the average db is lower while out doing normal trail riding. Curious to see your report after some serious driving

I don’t think there’s really any noticeable difference in performance by itself. 3-6 hp is about the same amount the A/C pump takes up by kicking in. This XD already has the Gilomen ECU and TCM tune on it and that is a massive jump in performance. The RPM exhaust is just that little bit more on top of it.

First of all, the new system looks great and I'm sure it sounds awesome. That said raising decibels by 7 and 10 respectably is a big deal. Decibels are not on a linear scale and a small increase makes a sizable difference. See the explanation below. In business anything above 85 db requires earplugs to prevent hearing loss.

A decibel (dB) is a unit of measurement for sound levels, also known as amplitude or volume. It is measured on a logarithmic scale, increasing exponentially. Every increase of 10 dB on the decibel scale is equal to a 10-fold increase in sound pressure level.

It’s definitely louder, but we could still hold a conversation without shouting. Considering that the 88 decibels is a little above what we’re able to get the Xpeditions down to with full sound dampening and insulation. We still need to get a spark arrestor for it, which will quiet it a little. Also, for anyone wanting the little more tone without as much noise levels, leaving the OEM manifold and only doing the muffler would be slightly quieter as well.

It’s still on our list to do sound dampening mat on the rear firewall, but it’s going to be a while before we get to that.

Overall, for anyone who’s primarily concerned about noise, I wouldn’t recommend this muffler system. One of the best things about the XD1500 is how quiet it is. I don’t think the performance boost is enough to justify it either.
For those that want something a little different, and don’t mind the extra noise, it’s a good option for personalizing your machine.

Thanks JT for the honest review. I think I’ll be leaving my factory exhaust on. Between the cost, small power gain, and noise increase. Sounds like I’m better off with the quietness of the XD.
