Looking at getting one. Years of dirt bike experience. A tiny bit of motorcycle. Few of my friends have bikes. Looked at this today. Any other guys ride?

From the pictures you show your region appears to have a lot of back roads where adventure bikes shine. You will have a blast. My favorite two was BMW and I owned a Husaberg the short time KTM owned them. My buddy swears by Ducati and owns several.
Only two wheeler I have now is a Montessa trials bike.

My brother-in-laws and I ride all the time. They have XR650’s and make fun of the KLR because of its looks. We used to ride Harley’s but prefer back roads nowadays. We also all have Sena in our helmets. Makes it really nice if your riding in a group like us.

Personally, I would go for the Honda..........because it's a Honda. I have a brother-in-law that has the Africa and loves it.

Hello: Had a 2017 Africa then a KTM 790 and now a BMW F900GS. At 68 yr young I enjoy riding back roads and forestry roads Which ever you buy you will enjoy just make sure you are dressed for the ride, Helmet, coat etc.

I can’t help ya much on the 2 wheel side of things. I have an issue with whiskey throttle. But I know around here I see a ton of KTM’s. Being in central Oregon, there’s always people cruising through on those adventure bikes. I’d say 80% are KTM’s.

I think there are some bargains to be had if you go with a KTM, that said they are in serious financial trouble and last I read their future was questionable.

I don't know the latest news, this all happened around January - February. I also never knew KTM had a larger dealer network than Harley Davidson.

However, KTM’s parent company, Pierer Mobility AG, reported significant losses in 2024, with motorcycle sales dropping by 27% and bicycle sales falling by 36%, leading to a net loss of €172 million. The company’s debt grew by almost 90%, exacerbating its financial woes. The overproduction during a period of slowing demand has resulted in a stockpile of unsold motorcycles equivalent to a year of global sales.

In response, KTM has implemented a restructuring plan aimed at reducing costs and improving efficiency. This plan includes layoffs and temporary production halts at its Austrian facilities, affecting around 300 workers. Some production has been relocated to China to cut expenses while maintaining product quality.

The future of KTM remains uncertain, but there are potential scenarios for recovery. If the company secures the necessary investments and successfully restructures, it could stabilize its operations and continue production. However, if KTM fails to secure enough investment or if the restructuring plan is not approved, the company might face further financial difficulties, potentially leading to a complete shutdown or sale of the company2.

Wow, I never would’ve thought that with all the bikes I see around here. Especially with the overland vehicles. It seems a lot of them have either mountain bikes or adventure bikes.

Another option if you do not ride dirt is Can am Spyder. Thre are a lot of low mile machines for sale. You really can relax when riding because you do not have to worry about gravel on the road, ruts or tar snakes.

The f900gs would be a serious contender in my books. That’s a nice bike!!

How does the at compare to the f900?

Ktm has a huge following! Here too. Bad thing is they’ve been bankrupt for over 2 years. They filed for protection last year. They will get bought by sombody eventually.

You always know the scoop on these matters, hobby or your living?

Neither. I do however keep up on the news and trends. I'm also the President of our Investment Club so I do a fair amount of research on the market and publicly held companies. Don't be impressed......... it's really just a group of 25 guys that get together monthly to drink and buy stocks as a group and have fun. Here's a stock tip for you, Polaris is trading at $33.01 and pays a 8.12% dividend. It's 52 week high was $90.62 and it's low was $30.92. It may take a little while to come back but there's better than a fair chance you should make good money on them. We just bought another 100 shares of them last night to try to dollar cost average our losses from when we bought them around $80 share. Disclaimer - Remember it's the stock market in a very unpredictable time so anything you do is on you, I could be completely wrong and they could go further south.
